What We Do
Welcome to Home-Start Leith & North East Edinburgh.
Home-Start Leith & North East Edinburgh (HSLNEE) provides a unique service for families –
- supporting parents with young children at home,
- and recruiting and training volunteers to provide this support
Additionally, as part of its on-going programme, HSLNEE runs regular parent and children groups and arranges social events for referred families.
Being a parent, whatever your age, background or other circumstances, isn’t always easy. This, coupled with other pressures in life such as illness, stress or financial worries can make parenting even more difficult and overwhelming.
Home-Start volunteers visit families once a week for a couple of hours in their own homes, supporting parents in situations as diverse as isolation, bereavement, multiple births, illness, disability or who are just finding parenting a struggle. They provide non-judgemental practical and emotional support and help build the family’s confidence and ability to cope.
All of our volunteers are trained over a 6 – 8 week period, are checked under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) legislation and have parenting experience. HSLNEE works with all families in need of support who have at least one child under the age of five.
